This package provides the Modem driver for Windows XP.

The Modem driver enables or updates the Modem function of ThinkPad AMR Modem of the following ThinkPad computers:

- ThinkPad R32 (Ethernet Wireless integrated model *1)

Note: *1 If your ThinkPad R32 is not an Ethernet Wireless integrated model, then install Modem driver (AMR daughter card) for Windows XP instead of this package.

I. Summary of changes

  • (New) Support ThinkPad R32.

II. Installation instructions
NOTE: If the audio driver has not been installed on the system, install the audio driver prior to the modem driver.

  1. Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start and then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WXP\MODEM\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Restart the system for the driver to take effect.
    Unattended installation
    NOTE: This is for system administrators' use only.

    1. Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
    2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
    3. Click Start and then click Run.
    4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WXP\MODEM\SETUP.EXE -S, then click OK.
    Manual uninstallation
    1. Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
    2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    4. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem.
    5. Click Change/Remove.
    6. Click Yes in the confirmation window.
    7. When asked to restart the system, click the Yes button.
    NOTE: If you do not remove the modem hardware, then Windows will detect the modem in the next boot.

    III. Determining which version is installed
    1. Start Windows XP
    2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click the Phone and Modem Options icon.
    4. Click the Modems tab.
    5. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem then click the Properties button.
    6. Select the Diagnostics tab and click the Query Modem button.
    7. Check the Command | Response window to verify the results of ATI3. The version of the driver installed is displayed.
