My hard drive crashed on my Aspire one AD250 and i want to install a larger hard drive. I did not get any disks when I purchased the computer and did not make a back up.
I just recently recieved a netbook for Christmas. It is a Acer Aspire One and comes with Windows 7 Starter I do not want this. I will either downgrade to Windows XP or upgrade to Windows 7. Either way I should not have to pay over $100 for the download. Is there anything I can do?
I have a Acer Aspire-One model #KAV10. It got infected and totally erased my hard drive. I contacted Acer and paided for the Recovery disks. The problem is after I run the Recovery procedure and reboot the computer the computer STILL does not boot. I created my own ISO of the system disk to be able to view the files on the hard drive and can see that files exist on the computer after the recovery is done. I contacted Acer but they tell me there is somthing wrong with my hard drive. I do not believe there is any problem with the hard drive (I ran chkdsk no problems were found). I ran “bootrec /fixmbr” no problem with master boot record either.
According to info that I have read the next file that Windows executes is NTLDR after it starts from the boot sector. I don’t find this on my hard drive. Is it suppose to be there?
I tried to install Windows XP by using retail copy but got blue screen each time.
What should I do next?
I have now been successful installing my retail copy of Windows XP. To do so I had to go in the Bios and change the Sata setting from “AHCI” to “IDE”. This proves to me that there is nothing wrong with the hard drive.
Next step is to “fight” with Acer on the recovery CDs.
